This is my first, and long-time coming rant about my passionate affair with the Instant Pot. For how much I cook, and test recipes, I’m not one for fancy kitchen gadgets. When I go into the kitchen, I need to throw down, and grab what I need with my eyes closed. My kitchen is well-stocked and well-organized, I have no room for a gimmick. But I will always make room for the instant pot.
What first turned me on, was my need to find a better way to make bone broth. I had a large stock pot on the back burner of my stove for days on end. I needed bone broth, wanted bone broth, but I didn’t need my house to smell like broth around the clock. This is where I discovered the Instant Pot. She gets the job done, every time. Bone broth is made in less than an hour, so my house can go back to smelling of essential oils and fresh flowers.
5 years later I use the instant pot every day for various uses. This hard-boiled eggs method is one that I have on repeat in the Spring and Summer when we have a bounty of fresh eggs from the coop.
Equipment you need:
- Instant Pot
- Large Wooden Spoon
- Big Bowl
Ingredients you need:
- Eggs- I can fit 11 eggs in the 8-quart Instant Pot
- 1 Cup Water
- 1/4 Cup White Vinegar
How to make Instant Pot Hard-Boiled Eggs: 5-5-5 Rule
5 minutes of pressure cooking, 5 minutes to release pressure, 5 minutes in the ice bath. DONE!
Step One: Place Eggs on the Trivet
Adjust as many eggs as will fit on the trivet inside the instant pot.
Step Two: Pour in Liquids
Next, pour in the water and the vinegar into the pot.
Step Three: Close & Seal Lid
Close and seal the instant pot lid on the pot, make sure the seal function is SEALED. This will ensure the Instant Pot comes to pressure.
Set the pot on HIGH PRESSURE for 5 minutes. It will begin to come to pressure and the 5-minute timer will start shortly after that. While you’re waiting, get a big bowl with ice water ready.
Step Four: Set Timer & Quick Release
After the 5-minute cooking time, let the eggs sit for an additional 5 minutes while the Instant Pot releases pressure. It’s helpful to set a timer here because the Instant Pot will not warn you when it has been five minutes.
After 5 minutes, take a large wooden spoon and QUICK RELEASE, by pressing the spoon onto the red button so that the remaining steam escapes. When the red button is down, you can open the lid.
Step Five: Transfer Eggs to Ice Bath
Carefully remove the trivet with the eggs on top and transfer them to the ice bath by letting the eggs gently fall off of the trivet into the ice bath. Let them sit in the ice bath for 5 minutes to cool completely.
Peel.
Bon Appétite!
Frequently Asked Questions:
What does Vinegar do to hard-boiled eggs?
Vinegar helps the egg whites to set faster, causing the white to separate from the eggshell, as well as preventing egg whites from spilling out of the egg if it accidentally cracks in the cooking process.
